Tropic Thunder

I am very, very tired. And I have just finished as much of my homework as I can complete tonight, so I'm going to bed. Soon.

In lieu of creative, original content from me, I'm linking to an incredible review of the "best comedy of the summer," Tropic Thunder.

As you might or might not know, disability rights groups have called for a boycott of this movie. And it turns out that "un-PC Language" is not the worst of its crimes.

I would've missed that review if not for your link, so thanks for that. As I said there:
Good post, excellent focus on an occasionally mentioned but mostly overlooked item in the debate. For me the big insult is in the sneaky way Dreamworks attempted to blatantly use disabilities with their fake trailer, merchandise and marketing campaign for the cod 'Simple Jack' movie. So they pulled the offending promo material. It sickens me nonetheless to think that they will not apologise, answer or atone for that scummy behaviour.

I'm ashamed to admit that I have been ignorant to the controversy. In fact, my son and I went to see it last night completely unaware.

I adore Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black...and yet, not only was some of the humor offensive, I can't tell you how not funny the rest of it was. Even for a 17 year old high school boy....not funny. We were both really disappointed.

As we walked out, my son said he suspected people would be upset with much of its content and that he couldn't blame them. I'll have to tell him we were WAY behind on the matter.

Nick, I'd missed that marketing campaign. Disgusting. It makes me want to throw my Shrek videos out the window. Or at least boycott future Dreamworks movies.

Jessica, I'm sorry you found it disappointing, but a little bit glad too. (I've heard a few similar reviews and hope they convince more people to avoid seeing the film.)

I can't stand the fact that my little girl is going to go to school with people who'll see movies like this and quote them all day long without having any idea how hurtful their language can be.
