Bad Mommy . . .

. . . no Facebook during lunch.

One day lunch ran a little long. I had long finished my meal but the girls were still chatting happily so I slipped away for a moment.

I heard pouring. A cabinet opening and shutting. More pouring.

So I walked back into the kitchen.

Ellie said, "Uh oh."

Ada politely wiped her face with a napkin hoping to distract me from her masterpiece on the table . . .

My water. Ada's milk. The remains of someone's sandwich. And a whole lot of fresh raisins from the cupboard.

But that is what Mommy does to make yummy stuff! A bit of this, a bit of that, add some other stuff and squish it all together!

looks like a science experiment to me! raisins do NOT dissolve in either milk or water. lesson learned! (also, wow! my kid totally would have had a deluge all over the tabletop/floor!)

Flatflo, very true! I had a similar experience the first time I made pork chops on my own. (I was about 10.) My mom told me how to pan fry them but I knew she usually coated them with . . . something. So I shook a little of every spice in the cabinet into a bag and went to town. They tasted strongly of cinammon.

Elissa, now that you mention it, Ada and Daddy did a "dancing raisins" science experiment a few months ago involving raisins, baking soda, and vinegar. Maybe that's what she was trying to recreate! (And there was indeed a large spill of water. Note the cloth diaper in the top photo!)

thanks for letting me know what we can expect in a few years...so funny that we as adults look at that and think, "what were you THINKING?" while I'm sure they had a perfectly reasonable explanation.
